What To Look For When Buying a Budget Treadmill?

Deck Size

The running deck is the single most important thing to pay attention too. In the top treadmills featured above, you will notice a big difference in the size of the running decks on each model.

Generally, the cheaper the treadmill, the smaller the running deck. Whilst that’s not true 100% of the time, we have found that in most cases, the more you pay the biggest surface area you get to run on.

If you’re a seasoned runner and are happy to go with a smaller deck then that’s fine, however, many of us aren’t and are just looking to get fit and lose a few pounds from the comfort of our own home. If that’s the case then be sure to choose a model with a wider deck, around 18″ at least if you can.

In this budget range, you will typically see running decks between 14 and 20″ wide, any wider and we push through into the sub $1,000 range.

Horse Power

Whilst the power of the treadmill is somewhat important, it really depends on what you want to do with it. If you are looking to do some brisk walking and even jogging then a motor that outputs around 1.0 hp (horsepower) will be plenty.

This will, of course, limit the top speed of the treadmill to around 4-6 mph. So if you want to do some serious running or at least have the option to do so later down the line I would suggest going for a 1.5-2.0 HP treadmill.

Don’t worry if all this is confusing, I break each one down into a handy little table below for you to compare the top 10 treadmills and decided which is best for you.

Folding Treadmills

If space is tight in your home gym and you’re looking for something a little more compact and even a treadmill that folds down flat for easy storage, then again I have included this information in the table below.

Not all treadmills are foldable, however as this is a review of the top 10 under $500, most of them do as they come will all kinds of bells and whistles that make them the best of the best.

Delivery

On delivery day, I would recommend that you have at least 2 even 3 people handy to help you take delivery of your chosen treadmill. First up, they are very heavy so if you need to go up any flights of stairs, over walls and rails then you will need more than just yourself, I don’t care how strong you are!

Then there is the issue of maneuvering the treadmill. Inside of the box, it is hard to get a decent grip and whilst it will slide over some surfaces, others, such as carpet, are not as forgiving. So again, 2 or more people will make the job that much easier.

Space

Ensure you have a good idea where you treadmill will go before choosing, this is often decided by the amount of space you have but don;t forget about storage. Where will you keep the machine when not in use?

If it will stay in situ then that’s fine, if not you should take a look at the dimensions for each I have provided below to make sure it will fit your chosen location when in use and when folded away.

Maximum Weight Limits

Most of the treadmills featured in our top 10 will support a max weight of around 200 lbs, some recommend less which is why we feel it’s important to keep that in mind. Obviously, we are looking for a machine that will fit the bill at under $500, so our budget will dictate which machine we buy, however, you don’t want it to break by exceeding the weight limit set by the manufacturers.

There is a chance you may not be covered if you do.

What Features You Need To Focus On

Set a budget.

Like with any product you are looking to purchase it is vital that you set yourself a budget. We can all get a little bit carried away when buying fairly expensive products. In this case, it is important that you get the best treadmill for home use.  Don’t always be seduced by what are considered to be the best treadmill brands. Always buy what suits your needs best.

What Features Has It Got?

We all want to buy the best product, that our budget allows. Just because you have a budget doesn’t mean you can’t purchase a treadmill that is stacked with good features and gadgets. You just have to look out for the right one.

Saving Space In Your Home

When looking to buy the best treadmill for home use you will need to consider if you have enough space for this often-bulky machine. If space is at a premium then buying the best folding treadmill is something you must seriously consider. There are also models that come with transportable wheels which may also help.

Pre-Programed Fitness Workouts

A lot of the best treadmills reviews will feature models with a number of pre-programmed workouts built-in. If you are looking for the best treadmill for running you may need more programs. However, if you are just starting out on the road to fitness a limited number of programs may be all you require.

What Should Consider When You Are Searching a Budget Treadmill?

Running Area

The tread belt of a treadmill is one of the most important parts of it. Usually, most of the cheap treadmills have small running space. More the price low more space small. If you are a regular user of the treadmill and want to get the maximum output from the treadmill, you should go for a treadmill which has a big running area. If you are a seasonal runner and a small running area is not an issue for you, you can order the best treadmill under 300.

Horse Power

Horse power of a treadmill is important. Because your workout style depends on the horse power of the treadmill. It is actually related to your style of workout. If you want to walk on the treadmill, a 1.0 HP motor of the treadmill is enough. If you want to be run or jogging on the treadmill with a speed 4-6 miles per hour, a 1.5 or a 2.0 HP motor is enough. But if you want to run regularly on the treadmill and you want to run up to 10 mph, then a 2.5 HP motor or above will be a better choice.

Folding Style
